The dairy farmers who lease our land usually take care of the fields as early as August and as late as September. But this year, due to all the rain early in the season, the corn was planted late, and with all the rain late in the season (Hurricane Irene), they just came to harvest the corn this past Sunday the 6th. But what I really want is for them to come and hay the fields – hay! hay! hay! – you couldn’t have asked for a better stretch of weather than these past ten days, and so with anticipation, I await their arrival every day.
I want the fields hayed because it will help to knock out some of the ticks – these hard frosts are certainly not doing the trick. It’s a war zone out there – we have never seen it this bad. Just this morning I picked off at least 20 ticks from each dog, and five or six crawling on me.
